About The Reykjavik City Walk

This Reykjavik city walk is renowned as a great introduction to Iceland and Reykjavik. It takes you on foot around the heart of Reykjavik with an English speaking local and a history graduate.

The main focus is the general history of Iceland and the evolution of Reykjavik as a town. We also tell you about elves, vikings, food, nightlife, music, economic aspects and political affairs. There are the funny facts about Iceland and the places you must see in Reykjavik. The walk is laid out in an informative and comic way, where there is also room for personal questions.

The walk itself is about 2km long and lasts 2 hours. We start at the Parliament building, walk through the cemetery that today is called Fógetagarður, past the oldest remaining house in Reykjavik and into the Rocky village. From there we walk along the ocean and onto Arnarhóll where you can see Harpa Concert Hall and the Prime Minister’s office. Then we cross Laugavegur the main shopping street with a quick glance at Hallgrímskirkja, From there we go down to MR high school before we finish at the lake Tjörnin in front of the City hall.

There are no meals included, no shopping involved nor any food stops or toilet breaks. In case of bad weather, construction, parade or similar occasions the tour is adjusted accordingly. Indoor stops are frequent in winter.

Reykjavik city walk has it all. Covering stories from folklore, humor, food, vikings to politics, culture and history insights. You will not find a better introduction to Iceland!

Reviews

Fun & informative city tour

Erik is an excellent tour guide - a history graduate able to bring his subject alive, and interspersing historical information with interesting facts about modern Iceland. A great way to spend a couple of hours on a drizzly Reykjavik morning.

Amazing walking tour

My husband and I did the 12pm tour with tour guide 'Eric'. Eric was knowledgeable, had a great sense of humour and was able to answer any questions raised in the group. The content of the tour was very interesting and the sites covered were great and definitely not ones you would pick out, just by walking around the city.

The tour started promptly and lasted just over 2 hours. Ideal time to get around and even included two indoor locations in order that we could warm up from the crazy winds! The pace and content of the tour was perfect.

Wonderful walk with knowledgeable guide

Went for the city walk tour on my second day at Iceland which sets the tone for the trip. Walking past the sights reminds me of the history and significance of the places that I was passing by. Erik(pretty sure I got the spelling wrong) made the tour lighthearted and fun. A history major, he certainly didn't make history boring.

Excellent experience with a knowledgable tour guide

Joined the free city tour with my mum and brother. The tour started promptly as promised and we had Sara as our guide. Her knowledge appeared unrivalled and her passion for her country, city and role as tour guide was so evident, it was refreshing! It was our first day and she made us all fall in love with the city right away, more so than we ever could have expected and that was all down to Sara! Honestly, she should be running tour companies worldwide!! Best first day we could have asked for and prepared us fully for our stay!
Thank you so much!
