About The Creative Writing Workshop
Inspired from the Reykjavik City Human Rights Manifesto, this creative writing workshop it's about finding creativity and being inspired by art, nature, human rights concepts, ourselves and others.The concepts we work with are age, gender, standard of living, sexual orientation, disability, origin, state of health and religion.
We start our writing workshop with an introduction of the group and a writing exercise. The concept of the day is introduced, discussed and then we go out for an "annotation walk". We look at the surroundings, the people, nature; go to one of the art museums in town, the harbor, the old cemetery or the flee-market. There we prepare ourselves before returning to the library immersing in the writing of a poem or a short story. I always encourage everyone to read their work out loud for the group, although it is optional. Individual expression can never be right or wrong and it can take any form and shape...
I want to encourage and empower people to express themselves through creative writing by providing a suitable environment where they create their own personal souvenir from Iceland. Be it a little poem or a story of a thousand words.
