Wood carving Workshop
About The Wood Carving Workshop
In our wood carving workshop, you will work on your personal project: a decorative carving to take with you home.
Initially, I offer you many designs to choose from for your own personal project. You will learn how to use carving chisels, use of related tools, equipment, cuts and I will guide you through the creative process to completion of the project.
I will be guiding and helping you from the beginning until you are finished with your project. Groups are small so I will spend enough time with every participant for a one to one experience.
We will also talk about different types of wood and stone, tools, sharpening, finishing and staining etc. And I will be always on hand to answer your questions and share my experience with you of this beautiful and ancient art. In the Viking Age, wood was used for homes, for ships, for barns and other buildings, as well as for farming implements and household objects, and many other uses.
This workshop is a great way to learn and motivate those who want to create something ambitious they might not try on their own. The results are often amazing. Carving and sculpting are an immensely satisfying activity that can decorate your life and your home. Come and discover the world of wood carving.

About the host
I’m a sculptor born and raised in Iceland. I started out wood carving and gradually progressed into sculpting over the years. I travel around the world to present exhibitions and teach.
In addition to being part of private collections around the world, my work is on permanent public display in several locations in the world including Iceland, the United States and China.
A few years ago I became city sculptor and in 2019 I was art director for the project "On the saga trail of Þórður Kakali" in Skagafjörð, in the northern part of Iceland.

Reviews
Woodcarving workshop is wonderful!
Our entire family—2 adults and children ages 10-13 loved the woodcarving workshop arranged through Creative Iceland. Our hosts were talented and wonderful. We had a great day and came home with skills we are excited to continue using. Really this could not be any better. We just loved it.

I recently took a private carving class with Jon and I want to again thank Jon and his delightful wife, Karin, for a wonderful day!
Before the class, Jon evaluated some of my previous woodcarving so he knew my level of expertise! Basically I’m a novice! But that didn’t bother Jon. He was very helpful in showing me numerous techniques and then allowed me to work on them myself. Jon answered all my questions and really helped me feel good about the project I was working on. By the time the class was over, I felt that I had learned skills and techniques that would help in any other project I attempt!
I would highly recommend taking a class with Jon, no matter what level you are at! He is an excellent teacher and very patient with new carvers like myself. If you are new to this hobby, you can’t find a better instructor than Jon.
My only complaint is that I live in America and Jon is based in Iceland! I can’t wait to return and take another class! Again if you want to learn wood carving, sign up for a class! You won’t regret it!
